Some of the many benefits of the Goal For Goals course:

  • It's fun!
  • It helps give children self confidence
  • Goals help to children to become successful
  • It helps to focus children's minds
  • It helps to turn children's dreams into reality
  • Children understand how feelings and emotions affect their behaviour
  • Children discover that they can do much more than they thought
  • Children feel better prepared to cope with school/work/other people

Foundational premise of the Goal For Goals course:

  • Everyone has different goals
  • Everyone has different expectations
  • The same things are not important to everyone
  • It's good for children to talk to* people about their goals (* a friend, parents teachers etc)
  • Children don't have to feel disadvantaged because they feel less 'bright' than other kids
  • Everyone is unique and special in their own way
  • Affirmations help to create self esteem
  • It's important to celebrate success

The course is delivered as a downloadable PDF file and is split into 8 sessions. It can be expanded if required.

The objectives of each session are:

Session 1
The trainer reads a story about a teacher who asked each of his pupils to say something special about everyone in the class. The children are asked to do this for those in their group. These special values are gathered together and a sheet produced for each child. The trainer/children turn them into positive affirmations.

Session 2
Positive affirmations are discussed in more detail. An 'I am Special' worksheet is completed to encourage the child to examine characteristics which will build their self esteem. This also allows the children to appreciate other values of their peers.

Session 3
An introduction to setting a goal, the criteria required and showing them how they have already achieved and been successful. Another area covered is the importance of listening carefully to what is being said.

Session 4
Highlight the difference between self-set goals and those imposed on them. Understanding the emotions created by the different types of goals. Focus on recognising feelings and emotions and encouraging the child to articulate these.

Session 5
Further reinforcement on the importance of connection with a child's feelings and emotions.

Session 6
Role-play to show what makes up a goal and the value of each element. It is important to celebrate each success. It is even more important to understand there is no failure and to look at this situation to learn from what the experience taught.

Session 7
Another role-play to reinforce the elements required for setting and achieving goals to enable the children to be more familiar with the process.

Session 8
A review of the complete course, focusing on the key learnings for each child and a discussion as to how these can be carried into their life. Discuss how a buddy, his parents, his teachers or trainers can be involved. Present the certificate supplied.

To make the course more successful we encourage parents to participate in the homework exercises. To engaged them we provide a separate Parent Guide with a course outline and advice on how to support their children.
