I Will... programme

A programme to empower young people facing challenges.

Rationale
To enable young people to experience an emotional breakthrough of empowerment, by combining physical activity with cognitive development to create a path to reintegration. This experience will be managed by a coach to ensure that these breakthroughs are focussed on the agreed outcomes.

This course is based on a powerful combination of successful programmes:

1) Cognitive development - building self-esteem and confidence that also enhanced test and assessment performances.

2) Personal empowerment - that has been incorporated in the Kent County Council training programme for foster carers.

3) Physical challenges - creating emotional breakthroughs as developed by Tony Robbins at his events so successfully, see www.tonyrobbins.com

4) Coaching - consolidating and focusing the success onto previously agreed outcomes, all managed by a professional coach.

Description of target audience
Young people of a similar age, that do not necessarily know each other who are open to doing something different. Particularly suitable for young people who are not in mainstream schooling, work or training to unleash their potential, reinforce their self worth and help them to reintegrate.

Programme Outline
The course is divided into three parts:

1) Preparation to provide an introduction and some ground work in relation to creating self worth, a group culture and defining some outcomes.

2) At the Outdoor Education Centre a programme of activities will create challenges that will have a fundamental impact on their self worth. A coach will work with them to capture and build on these experiences to take the learning's into practical outcomes for their future.

3) Follow up meetings to ensure outcomes agreed are followed through. A work book will be provided to engage the parent/carer/referrer and enable them to participate in the process.

Overall Aims
To empower all the participants by building their self worth, self-esteem and self belief, and realising that they can achieve whatever they set their mind too. The young people will have overcome a variety of blockages and the successes will have been reinforced during this programme by a coach. Each participant will have individual coaching to keep them focussed on their defined outcomes.

To engage the parent/carer/referrer in working with the young person. This course is a proactive approach about internalising empowerment and should not be confused with counselling or therapy.

Maximise Effectiveness
To gain maximum effectiveness a client representative should be part of the team throughout the programme, to enable them to continue working with the parent/carer and young person towards their outcomes and revising them accordingly. Also consider some more cognitive work as preperation to this programme.

Number of participants
Depending on the structure of the group and the amount of time required for each individual (assessed by the coach) the numbers will vary from 6 to 12 young people.

Method of assessment
A Rosenberg self-esteem scale will be used at the beginning and end of the programme, sessions will have self and peer reviews in addition to those by trainers and coach.
