Positive Affirmations Print E-mail

Affirmations are positive statements about who you are or what you can become. They are useful to assist you in making a change to your belief system. We take on a lot of negativity in our lives from other people and our own self talk, 'I cant do that' or I'm tired' reaffirm our own self doubt and beliefs.

To make positive affirmations effective, they must be believable to our conscious minds before they are accepted by our subconscious minds:

1) It must be personal and start with 'I am' or 'I can'

2) Word it as though you already have made the change you want to make and use the present tense

3) Visualise yourself achieving your desired outcome in a large colourful picture

4) Be specific about the result of your affirmation

5) Inject feeling and emotion into it, the change wont happen if you don't believe it will

6) They are more effective if affirmed when you are in a relaxed state, either when you awaken or just before going to sleep

7) Repetition is the key although please remember to add the feeling and emotion each time you make the affirmation

In our programmes we create the affirmation from a values exercise where the children choose from a variety of values given to them by their peers. This gives the affirmation another dimension and makes it very powerful.
